Sunday Scroll #73

BREAKING NEWS: McCain agrees to Barack Obama's 16 month timeline!
Both Bush and McCain now in Obama's camp on Iraq strategy
... In an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, McCain endorsed the idea of a timetable. When asked if Maliki would “persist” in requesting a 16-month withdrawal timetable from Iraq, McCain responded, “He won’t. … I know him.” McCain then praised Maliki’s 16-month timetable:
BLITZER: So why do you think he said that 16 months is basically a pretty good timetable?
McCAIN: He said it’s a pretty good timetable based on conditions on the ground. I think it’s a pretty good timetable, as we should — or horizons for withdrawal. But they have to be based on conditions on the ground.
[Oops, you said timetable...'or horizons' - But that's all right McNasty, the main thing is you're getting in line - again and again. We'll have to completely stop the bandwagon for you to jump on this time though, Grampy. You're welcome, and thanks for finally coming around.]

Damn, maybe we should nuke them
TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) -- Thirty people convicted of drug and other criminal charges will be hanged on Sunday, Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency reported Saturday. ... All 30 were convicted of crimes including murder, murder in commission of a crime, disturbing public safety and security, being a public nuisance while drunk and being involved in illegal relationships -- relationships between men and women who are not married to each other.

The so-called conservative's hero
Very few people are aware that it was Ronald Reagan who gave rise to Osama bin Laden just as they aren't aware of his cutting and running from Lebanon after the killing of 241 of our Marines in Beirut. Worse than all of that, was he sold those same Hezbollah terrorists who killed those 241 Marines missiles a mere two years later. "What would Reagan do?" He'd sell all of those 'Islamic Jihadists' weapons if he could get the right price! For me, when it comes to Reagan I don't think of 'Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall', I always think of [it appears on this blog] -- "A few months ago I told the American people I did not trade arms for hostages. My heart and my best intentions still tell me that's true, but the facts and the evidence tell me it is not." - Ronald Reagan - March 4, 1987 -- Yep, the good Ol' Gipper .. Their 'conservative' (sic) hero ... (btw, that last link, was my second post out of 2,725)

Since we're on Reagan ...
That irksome little dweeb Grover Norquist is trying to replace Alexander Hamilton's image on the $10 bill with Reagan's. Give me a fucking break! Hamilton was our first Treasury Secretary. Reagan had $1.412 TRILLION in deficits in his eight years in office. Imagine the interest accrued on that over the last 19 years. It's more than tripled. If Grover wants to put Reagan's mug on something, he should try the Debt Clock.
[And while you're at that debt clock link, check out that $2.3 TRILLION social security SURPLUS - And notice how it's going UP, unlike the stock market for those of you who wanted to privatize]

Would reduce gasoline 1-4 cents per gallon by 2018
[Ted Stevens, the corrupt and sure to be soon indicted Republican Senator from Alaska demanded that the Energy Information Administration do a study on what the effect on gasoline prices would be if we drilled for oil at the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). The EIA completed that study in May. And what were their findings? Drilling in ANWR would "translate into a reduction in gas prices between just one cent and four cents" by 2018. You ANWR pro-drilling fanatics are nauseatingly misinformed and obnoxiously stupid.]

The 'liberal media', my ass
Fox News runs a segment using video of McCain from his 2000 campaign, CNN whores out a couple of Nazis-sympathizers who imply Obama emulates Mussolini and Hitler and CBS's blatant editing cover-up for McCain. ... Liberal media ... Yeah right.

McCain can't speak for his own economic plan
On Wednesday the Tax Policy Center released a report finding a $2.8 trillion gap between Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) public economic proposals and his advisers’ private assurances. ... Douglas Holtz-Eakin, McCain’s chief economic adviser, said of McCain, “He has certainly I’m sure said things in town halls” that don’t jibe perfectly with his written plan. But that doesn’t mean it’s official.

He had better pardon himself
Mr. Magoo goes to market
All McCain needed was a helmet to give us that funny and long lasting visual . ... I know, it's not fair to pick on McCain's age and stature, especially in comparison ... the 26 years younger and all. It's certainly not Magoo's strength. That would be his oratory skills and his ability to deliver a punch line.

(CBS/ AP) The number of households facing the foreclosure process more than doubled in the second quarter compared to a year ago, according to data released Friday. Nationwide, 739,714 homes received at least one foreclosure-related notice during the quarter, or one in every 171 U.S. households, Irvine, Calif.-based RealtyTrac Inc. said. That's up 121 percent from the second quarter of 2007.
[Sure, lets vote for the same economic policies!]

Voting for Obama? Click to inflate --- Voting for McCain? Click to deflate

Why not?
Before leaving on his overseas trip, Sen. Barack Obama reviewed information on several prospects and narrowed the field. His focus now includes five colleagues in the U.S. Senate -- Joseph Biden, Evan Bayh, Chris Dodd, Hillary Clinton and Jack Reed -- and two governors, Tim Kaine of Virginia and Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas, according to Democratic operatives, though he could still make a different pick.
[I like Jim Webb .. he's out supposedly. Kaine is all right, he'd give Democrats Virginia, but his strengths don't line up. Biden, Dodd and Reed? Democrats already have those three states in the bag and not much 'change' there. Bayh or Sebelius, Indytucky and Kansas? Don't need them, don't want them. Hillary? She's looking stronger and stronger with the polls remaining tight - but, 'change'? I like Chuck Hagel - have for a long time. Hagel would definitely win a lot of independents. He's a real war hero. Why not?]

The Limbaugh Award

Once again, welcome here to 'done that' and the 73rd Limbaugh Award. And ladies and gentlemen, what a week for liars it was!

It must be the campaign season that brings out all of these liars and this year with the Republican candidate being so weak, unprincipled and such a flip-flopping, double-talking fool who has now taken a back seat to Barack Obama on the only issue he had a lead on, you can expect a helluva lot more of it in weeks to come.

The particularly busy week had Sean Hannity lying about when Obama called for more troops in Afghanistan, Bill O'Reilly lying about Abu Ghraib, Alaska's 34-year and lone Congressman, Don Young lying about a phony ‘Hero of the Taxpayer’ award, Rudy Giuliani lying about Fox News' coverage of the Iraq Occupation, Larry Craig, R-Idaho, lying still about performing fellatio, Max Boot lying about Iraq's call for withdrawal, and Bob Novak lying about the guy lying on the hood of his car.

But believe it or not, with all of those liars mentioned above, not one of them got a single vote from any of the esteemed, and 'world renowned', Committee members. In fact the 'Committee' did not even bother to meet this week -- they mailed it in!

Gentlemen and ladies, the winner of this week's award, hands down, unanimously selected, a slam-damn-dunk; Ms. Katie Couric of CBS News.

What little Katie and CBS did this week is one of the most egregious acts that a non-Fox News journalist could ever commit. By splicing John McCain's answer to a very serious national security question, that if not doctored, clearly would show his incompetence, your reporting, or lack of it, is now endangering the country.

The mainstream media, starting with Katie Couric, needs to stop giving John McCain a free pass and start reporting the facts. I realize he barbeques for you and gives you 'special seats' on his plane if you 'go along' with the script, but you need, for the sake of the Union, to start reporting the facts about all of his lies and errors.

Take McCain's lie about the Pittsburgh Steelers' defensive line. Did anybody read about that anywhere but here? That won a Limbaugh Award and didn't even make it into the New York Times or the Washington Post! Which network showed that ridiculous, and very telling lie?

Our national security and the economic well-being of our country depend greatly on this year's election. And the deceitful and extremely unethical behavior by Katie Couric and CBS this week threatens to lock our already dumb and grossly misinformed populace into another national disaster and it overwhelmingly earns her this 'prestigious, but infamous' award for liars.

Congratulations, you're #73, Katie.
