Five Years in Iraq

When Liars Lead and Sheep Follow
I have been thinking what I'd write about on this infamous day in our country's history for a few days now.

I was thinking of writing about the 3,990 Americans needlessly killed or the 29,314 wounded or the $3 trillion wasted because of the lies Bush and his minions told. Lies that even the Pentagon now confirms.

I was going to throw something in there about the often repeated lie that 'Congressional Democrats overwhelmingly supported this war' and how of course, that's bullshit since 57% of them did NOT.

And then John McCain, the next fool in line to 'drive this bus into the ditch' opened his mouth yesterday and embarrassed himself - and anyone foolish enough to support him - and I realized that a lot of that is, 'water under the bridge' -- 'ancient history' if you will.

We can't go back. We can't convince all the scared, the feeble and the ignorant that went along. But we can prevent electing another fool who not only will continue this Iraq occupation fiasco but possibly lead us into another war. No, we now have to be aware of those who are competent enough to lead this country after such a disastrous eight years.

And that is going to take good judgment. Not some ridiculous and phony record of 'experience' at foreign policy that McCain is trying to spoon feed the country. McCain, who has visited Iraq 10 times now is not even smart enough to know that al-Qaeda are Sunni Muslims. We're not talking about some pathological lying and pathetically stupid wingnut blogger here -- we're talking about electing a president and we cannot afford another bumbling fool.

Judgment - Here's what John McCain said before our historical blunder;
“And I believe that the success will be fairly easy.” [9/24/02]

“I believe that we can win an overwhelming victory in a very short period of time.”
[9/29/02]
Now contrast that with what Barack Obama said before that vote that Republicans sent us needlessly into war;
'After September 11th, after witnessing the carnage and destruction, the dust and the tears, I supported this administration's pledge to hunt down and root out those who would slaughter innocents in the name of intolerance, and I would willingly take up arms myself to prevent such tragedy from happening again. I don't oppose all wars. And I know that in this crowd today, there is no shortage of patriots, or of patriotism.

What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other armchair, weekend warriors in this administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne.'

Now tell me, where would we be if Obama would have been president then, versus McCain?

I'll tell you where we would have been. Osama bin Laden would have been dead way back in December of 2002. Why? Because we know Barack Obama would have pursued bin Laden no matter where he hid. And we never would have went stupidly into Iraq. And where would we be if John McCain was president? The same place we are now.

It's not a 'happy' fifth year anniversary. And it won't get any better, in fact, it will get even worse if this country doesn't pull its collective heads out of its collective asses and stop these warmongering fools from leading this country anymore.

It's way past time for change. These eight years of George Bush will have damaged this country for decades to come and John McCain will only add four more years to that misery.

It's time for a change that gets us out this disastrous and costly five year mistake.
