Sunday Scroll #55 - Easter Edition

It's Easter Sunday
And John McCain's 'pastor' has a message for you;
"It's true that [John] McCain's campaign sought my endorsement."
And, for the 65 million American Catholics, John McCain's pastor, John Hagee, has an Easter message for you, too.

The man who conned the neocons
"Pushed America to War"
'In the run-up to the Iraq war, Ahmad Chalabi's INC was associated with news stories on alleged defectors from Saddam's regime. In one, a woman calling herself Saddam's longtime mistress was said to have told that he gave money to Osama bin Laden. Another story described Iraqi mobile laboratories for weapons of mass destruction, labs that could not be found when U.S. forces occupied Iraq. "The point is this, Chalabi's INC, even when it did not directly plant false information about Saddam's links to terrorists and his WMDs, knew full well that, in many cases, it was false."
[Chalabi used Bush ... Bush used Chalabi -- and they both used Judith Miller and the NY Times -- and we got stuck with the tab]

Damn, I forgot I was that good
I did a search here on 'done that' looking for something I had written about Lincoln Chafee [he endorsed Obama you know?] and I came upon a blog story I wrote back in September 2006 and realized I was six for six on picking the six new Democratic Senators that GOD granted to us two months later! Just lucky I guess.

''So?''
Four U.S. troops killed in Iraq
BAGHDAD — - The number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq edged closer to the milestone figure of 4,000 dead Saturday [3/22] as a roadside bomb claimed the lives of three soldiers. The bomb blew up the U.S. soldiers' vehicle and killed two Iraqis in northwestern Baghdad, the military said in a press release. The military also reported that indirect fire, either a rocket or mortar, killed a U.S. soldier and wounded four others south of Baghdad on Friday. The loss of life raised the number of U.S. troops killed since 2003 to 3,996.
[Some people couldn't care less]

Michigan man killed in Iraq
A U.S. Army staff sergeant with Livingston County [MI] ties died Monday in Baghdad, Iraq, when his Humvee struck an improvised explosive device during combat operations. Staff Sgt. Michael Duane Elledge, 41, was assigned to 1st Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division stationed at Fort Carson, Colo. He is survived by his wife, Carleen; and their children, Christopher, 18, Caleb, 8, and Cassidy, 6, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.
[Michigan, 148 killed in Iraq]

Who John Edwards went after
This undated photo released by her family shows Abigail Taylor, 6. The family of the 6-year-old girl whose intestines were partially sucked out by a Minnesota swimming pool drain June 29, 2006 says the child has died. Family attorney Bob Bennett says Abigail Taylor's parents were with her when she died Thursday evening at a Nebraska hospital.
[John Edwards won a $25 million lawsuit against a pool manufacturer in 1996 for this very same thing. Children sit on pool drains and it, "disembowels" them. During the case Edwards won, Lakey v. Sta-Rite Industries, it was revealed; "Despite 12 prior suits with similar claims, manufacturer continued to make and sell drain covers lacking warnings". Of course, John Edwards is always vilified as a scumbag 'trial lawyer'. They all are - until something like that happens to your daughter]

We're still paying for Reagan
Perhaps it is fitting that the 25th anniversary of President Ronald Reagan's "Star Wars" speech falls on Easter Sunday. After all, many had believed Reagan's grand plan for a system that would render Moscow's nuclear-tipped missiles "impotent and obsolete" died along with the Soviet Union. But "Star Wars" has been resurrected, and has been standing guard over America's skies since 2004. But the more than $120 billion spent over 25 years to build the "Star Wars" missile shield has not left the U.S. less vulnerable to attack - some would argue that it has done exactly the opposite, ...

Jobs for France, 'Merci McCain!'
France proclaims "John McCain Day' over new jobs!
'With our economy sputtering, can America afford to export more than 40,000 manufacturing jobs to France? As this video shows, Sen. John McCain sure seems to think so. He helped the U.S. military choose the French company Airbus for a contract estimated at more than $30 billion – a contract that could have generated at least 40,000 jobs here at home, in the USA. American workers cry foul while McCain’s adoring French fans cry, “Vive John McCain!” "Merci McCain!"
[Campaign for America's Future!]

And foreign policy is your strength?

Time for a little social studies
Along with a little math
'Foreign militants constitute about 10% of al-Qaeda's strength in Iraq'. ... There are about 240 foreigners out of the 23,000 detainees in U.S. custody, according to Air Force Capt. Rose Richeson, a spokeswoman for detainee operations in Iraq. The bulk of the foreigners are from Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Syria.'
[Okay, where are we? 'Ten percent of the so-called, 'al-Qaeda in Iraq', are from outside of Iraq, which for those of you without your calculators, that means 90% are Iraqi Sunnis who are pissed-off or fighting Iraqi Shiite militias that want them dead. And, '240 out of 23,000 detainees' are foreigners? That's one-percent. Either those Saudi-boys are damn good, or somebody's stretching the facts. In fact, those numbers are actually closer to 4%. Which means they're good, but they are not that damn good. You're welcome]

And that sure isn't John McCain!

Oops, my bad ...
Elsewhere, US troops shot dead three Iraqi policemen by mistake near the northern city of Kirkuk. A US military statement described the incident in Kirkuk as a tragic accident, which was sincerely regretted.
A US airstrike struck checkpoints manned by US-allied Sunni fighters north of Baghdad on Saturday, killing six guards and wounding two, Iraqi police said.

You can't stop feeding that monster
The success of the US "surge" strategy in Iraq may be under threat as Sunni militia employed by the US to fight al-Qaida are warning of a national strike because they are not being paid regularly. Leading members of the 80,000-strong Sahwa, or awakening, councils have said they will stop fighting unless payment of their $10 a day (£5) wage is resumed. The fighters are accusing the US military of using them to clear al-Qaida militants from dangerous areas and then abandoning them.
[When Bush and Petraeus said 'surge' what they really meant was a 'surge of cash' to pay insurgents to play nice. And of course, that '80,000' figure is incorrect. You know it's more like 91,000, remember?]

Another kind of pig at the trough
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Big Wall Street investment companies are taking advantage of the Federal Reserve's unprecedented offer to secure emergency loans, the central bank reported Thursday. The lending is part of a major effort by the Fed to help a financial system in danger of freezing. ... The Fed created a way for financially strapped investment firms to have regular access to a source of short-term cash. This lending facility is seen as similar to the Fed's "discount window" for banks. Commercial banks and investment companies pay 2.5 percent in interest for overnight loans from the Fed.
[It's good to see the current regime letting the 'free market' take its course and let's not forget it's corporate hogs getting our tax dollars with this 'handout'.]

Nice tip
SAN DIEGO - A Superior Court judge on Thursday ordered Starbucks to pay its California baristas more than $100 million in back tips that the coffee chain paid to shift supervisors. Saying baristas were entitled to $86 million in back tips plus interest, San Diego Superior Court Judge Patricia Cowett also issued an injunction preventing Starbucks’ shift supervisors from sharing in future tips.
[Managers and supervisors got the cash and Starbucks ends up paying the penalty?]

'Bush killed the Republican brand'
Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA), who is retiring this year, tells the Washington Post: “You have a very unhappy electorate, which is no surprise, with oil at $108 a barrel, stocks down a few thousand points, a war in Iraq with no end in sight and a president who is still very, very unpopular. He’s just killed the Republican brand.”
[He couldn't have done all of his damage without the rubberstamp from you Republicans in Congress, Mr. Davis. Quit whining and playing the victim.]

Oh shit, Bill's a Black separatist, too?
During one of the most difficult periods in the presidency of Bill Clinton, he addressed a group of clerics at an annual prayer breakfast in September 1998 just as the Starr report outlining his dalliance with Monica Lewinsky was about to be published. Among those in attendance, was the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr.,
[They were feeling each other's pain.]

National Security Alert!

Note the date of this memo from Richard Clarke to Condoleezza Rice. There is talk of Rice being on McCain's list for VP. That would be good news for Democrats in November but on the other hand, it could be disastrous for the country.

Tell us what you really think
When New York Times op-ed columnist Maureen Dowd wrote recently that George Bush has "turned into Gene Kelly," she set off a firestorm of protest from fans of the late dancer, director and choreographer. Kelly's widow, Patricia Ward Kelly, declared that "If Gene were in a grave, he would have turned over in it." In a letter to the Times, she wrote that "when Gene was compared to the grace and agility of Jack Dempsey, Wayne Gretzky and Willie Mays, he was delighted. But to be linked with a clunker -- particularly one he would consider inept and demoralizing -- would have sent him reeling."
[The 'Hollywood elite' got it right that time]

The Bush Legacy

More than Vietnam
According to two prominent economists, in a study the White House has not disputed, the cost of the war now outpaces the total price of the 12-year US conflict in Vietnam. It's now nearly double the total cost of the Korean War.
[A more appropriate title would be, 'The cost of people who acted like sheep']

Happy Easter to you and to yours

The Limbaugh Award

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 55th presentation and special 2008 'Easter Edition', of the famous and now, world renown, 'Limbaugh Award'.

This week turned out to be the 'busiest' yet for liars and not only was it the closest contest ever, but for the first time in this distinguished award's long history -- because of the crowded field of nominees -- the winner received less than 50% of the vote from our highly esteemed selection committee.

In ascending order of votes received, we had;

Bill Kristol receiving 7% of the vote for lying in a NY Times op-ed that Barack Obama, “was in fact in the pews” when pastor Jeremiah Wright blamed the “arrogance” of the “United States of White America” for much of the world’s suffering. He would have scored higher if he had not retracted it. The 'committee', with the exception of the seven percent who insisted that Bill Kristol is still a lying piece of shit worthy of this award, decided to vote for other nominees.

In a distant fourth-place, the White House's 'cute' but dense spokeswoman, Dana Perino, received 9% from the committee for her debacle on Wednesday. Earlier that day, her boss George was out trying to scare the sheep when he, “warned of the danger that Al Qaeda could gain access to Iraq’s oil resources.” Later that day at a White House briefing a reporter asked Perino, “So the Iraqis would let a foreign terrorist organization take over their oil?” Perino, acting 'annoyed' said to the reporter, "you're missing the point” and that [you] should go back and read Bush’s speech because “what you’re suggesting is not what the president said.” - Well, yes it was what Bush said, Ms. Perino. You're either lying or incompetent. But you also only received 9%.

In third place this week, receiving 26% of the vote, Mr. Dick 'The Dickhead' Cheney. Of course Cheney had his 'tough-guy acting' moment but his nomination this week (and he only missed winning by 4%) was for his annual lie about al-Qaeda being in Iraq. I lobbied the committee hard against this pick since this often repeated lie by Cheney has been debunked so many times it's only believed now by 11% of Americans.

In second place this week, the name-sake of this, 'prestigious, but infamous' award for liars, Mr. 'Oxycontin Pig-Boy' Limbaugh himself. Pig-Boy had a miserable week. He really thought he had the 'Black guy' down., He's argued for months that Barack has 'never been down for the struggle' and then this week he was desperately trying to convince his audience that Barack is really down for the struggle -- in fact, he's so 'down' he's a 'secret white people-hating Black Panther!'

I also lobbied against picking Limbaugh. He lies every single day. That's why it's called the Limbaugh Award. But he still received 28% of committee's votes for lying about Barack and Hillary all in the same week. He had three other shows though. So many lies, but only one award.

But ladies and gentlemen, this week's winner, with 30% of the vote, is Mr. John 'Shiite for a Brain' McCain.

John McCain, who has told the country over and over again just how strong he is on 'foreign policy' and how he is, oh so ready to 'lead from day one', proved to the world (and embarrassed our nation terribly in Jordan) that he is no where close to being qualified to lead this country.

There are plenty of people out there who don't know that al-Qaeda are Sunnis and Iranians 90-95% Shiites, but they're not running for president on some trumped-up foreign policy credentials either!

And for those who say McCain is just stupid and not 'lying', well, that's bullshit. He lied immediately afterwards when he said he had just 'misspoke'. And it's been proven that McCain has repeated that ignorant nonsense several times over the last few weeks. He truly is unfit to lead.

And if you want a 'direct' lie, when McCain was later asked about his pathetically, and embarrassing statement he replied, "We all misspeak from time to time and I immediately corrected it." -- No he didn't!! Joe Lieberman 'corrected' it! -- That lying senile idiot!

Congratulations, Shiite for a Brain -- You're #55!
