Senate Republicans firm on tax cuts for rich

"I'm introducing legislation today that ensures that no one in this country will pay higher income taxes next year than they are right now," McConnell said on the Senate floor.

Don Stewart, McConnell's spokesman, said Senate Republicans were united on the issue and had enough votes to block Obama's plan. "There are no Republicans who support a tax hike," he said.

If Republicans think they have enough votes to block Obama they better have at least 51 votes because Democrats don't need 60 votes to pass new tax law. After all, Republicans didn't have 60 votes when they passed Bush's tax cuts by using the budget reconciliation so why would Democrats need 60 to change it?

What's good for the goose... Democrats only need 50 votes.
