Obama tripled the deficit?

Bullshit!

I've heard a lot ignorant people, e.g., Neal Cavuto last night, say recently that Barack Obama has 'tripled the deficit'. When discussing the current year (10/1/08 - 9/30/09) FY09 projected federal budget deficit of $1.8 trillion it is important to know its ownership.

Let's start where the FY09 budget began; In February 2008, George W. Bush submitted his FY09 $3.1 trillion budget that projected a $407 billion deficit. Of course, like all of Bush's budgets, he was lowballing us and by July 2008 he was admitting his 2009 deficit would be $482 billion. Remember that $482 billion, that's our starting point.

One important thing to remember about Bush's budgets were they never included the ridiculous amounts of money he was spending in Iraq and Afghanistan. Bush was shameless and sleazy in that regard, but it's okay now, Obama changed that policy.

So add that $200+ billion that was hidden from Bush's 2009 budget to his already acknowledged $482 billion deficit and even a wingnut lamb can come up with a real, $682 billion FY09 deficit, going in, way back in July 2008. And boy, we're not done yet.

No, Bush wasn't done with his 2009 deficit: three months later, he would spend another $700 billion to bailout our friends on Wall Street. Now let's see, there's another $700 billion added to the already projected $682 billion and now, ladies and gentlemen, you have a $1.4 trillion deficit for 2009 and we haven't even had an election yet.

'Ownership' of that deficit? That's not Barack Obama's deficit. He didn't triple anything. He was left with that mess. At least 78% of that $1.8 trillion deficit was already wrung up on George W. Bush's watch.

Maybe that's why the CBO was predicting a $1.2 trillion FY09 deficit two weeks before Obama took office. The CBO was $200 billion too low. They must not have been including the $200 billion in war funding Bush was hiding.

Don't be spoutin' that bullshit about Obama 'tripling' this year's deficit. It just reveals your ignorance. That deficit -- at least 78% of it -- belongs to Bush.

The facts are there for those who don't want to remain ignorant of them. I'll help you with them ... occasionally.
