Happy Father's Day

Where is Osama Bin Laden?
Excellent and in-depth piece on Osama bin Laden

Herding sheep 50 miles offshoreTo gin up support for off-shore drilling, the Right has an ace up its rhetorical sleeve: the Chinese in Cuba.

Obama's Policy Being Implemented
Bush finally goes along with Obama on Pakistan
But pleads with British to fight our 'war on terror'
George W Bush has enlisted British special forces in a final attempt to capture Osama Bin Laden before he leaves the White House. Defence and intelligence sources in Washington and London confirmed that a renewed hunt was on for the leader of the September 11 attacks. ...The Special Boat Service (SBS) and the Special Reconnaissance Regiment have been taking part in the US-led operations to capture Bin Laden in the wild frontier region of northern Pakistan. It is the first time they have operated across the Afghan border on a regular basis.
[It's embarrassing that we're pleading with the British to help us find what should have been our first and most important objective for almost seven years now. Why did Bush turn Afghanistan and the hunt for bin Laden over to NATO? And it's disgraceful that Bush took another 10 months before acting on Obama's sound advice on how to proceed with Musharraf and the sandbagging Pakistanis. The country should look forward to 'real' leadership with Barack Obama, who has never forgotten who the real enemy is, or where they're hiding.]

Red State, Blue State
[I heard someone on TV say that it was Tim Russert who came up with the 'Red State-Blue State' designation so I decided to Google it and I came upon this really interesting piece from a site called, "The Word Detective"]
The use of “red” and “blue” as color codes on maps of electoral results actually dates back to at least 1908, when the Washington Post printed a special supplement in which Republican states were colored red and Democratic blue. The colors were apparently arbitrarily assigned in that case, although in later years both parties strove to claim blue (as in “true blue Americans”) and avoid red, with its connotations of radicalism. Finally, in 1976, the TV networks agreed to a formula to avoid any implication of favoritism in color selections. The color of the incumbent party, initially set as blue for Gerald Ford’s Republican ticket in that year, would flip every four years.
[But then to confuse matters, I got this link from the WP from one of the comments left at "The Word Detective"]

What Obama said about the 'divide'
"We coach Little League in blue states and we have gay friends in red states. We pray to an awesome God in blue states and we don't like federal agents sniffing around our libraries in red states." - 2004 Democratic National Convention

Republican mayor, Ray Nagin
[Karl Rove] had already set the plan in motion on Tuesday with Nagin, who, even though he was a Democrat, was so close to the Republican Party that some members of the African American community in New Orleans called him "Ray Reagan." In 2000, Nagin had actually contributed $2,000 to Bush's campaign when he ran for president. Rove knew of Nagin's ties to the Republican Party, so more than likely Nagin could be convinced to level his criticism at Blanco and to support Bush when he could. Here was Rove's strategy:
[I always felt there was something about that guy that wasn't quite right]

Fox News - News for the classless
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but how much is a chyron worth? Apparently, for Fox News, a whole lot. During an interview Wednesday with conservative columnist Michelle Malkin about attacks against Michelle Obama, Fox News ran a graphic on the lower third of the screen that read, “Outraged Liberals: Stop Picking on Obama’s Baby Mama!” The comment — both crass and, for those who know anything about 21st-century slang, just plain wrong!
[My favorite 'chyron' moment from Fox is by far when back in April 2007 they eliminated those four words ("I think that nobody..') at the beginning of one of his statements on our troops in Iraq. And now they refer to his daughters as bastards. Nothing proves Fox's bias, and their absolute classlessness, more than those at Fox themselves.]

Demand goes down, price goes up
Economics 101
Saudi Arabia, the world’s biggest oil exporter, is planning to increase its output next month by about a half-million barrels a day, according to analysts and oil traders who have been briefed by Saudi officials. ... While they are reaping record profits, the Saudis are concerned that today’s record prices might eventually damp economic growth and lead to lower oil demand, as is already happening in the United States and other developed countries.
[As you know, demand for oil has fallen sharply for the last 3 1/2 months while the price has gone thru the roof. There is no oil or gas shortage. When is the last time you saw a line at a gas station? And naturally, the oil industry doesn't need any regulating since its 'free market' prinicples are working out just fine - for oil men]

Evicted
“Iraq has another option that it may use,” Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki said during a visit to Amman, Jordan. “The Iraqi government, if it wants, has the right to demand that the U.N. terminate the presence of international forces on Iraqi sovereign soil.”
[The Iraqis want us the hell out of their country. Only fools and Chickenhawks refuse to accomodate them.]

What McCain's economic plan will do
McCain’s economic plan, (which includes a corporate tax cut, a full repeal of the AMT, and an extension of the Bush tax cuts) would leave a debt of $12.7 trillion (the highest since 1951 when America was still holding debt from WW2) by the last budget of a two term presidency starting in 2009 (FY2017).
[The result of electing John McCain is already a foregone conclusion as history clearly shows that when a Republican takes the White House; deficits skyrocket, unemployment always goes up and Americans suffer. Since if elected, McCain would follow the worst president in history, we have a lot to look forward to since economists say his plan will be even worse!]

Cedar Rapids down main street
CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - All around the Midwest, the water just kept rising. Even as Cedar Rapids was nearly shuttered on Friday, its sandbagged downtown submerged in the biggest flood ever recorded here...
[It's all a 'hoax']

Everything's under control
In a brazen attack, Taliban fighters assaulted the main prison in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar on Friday night, blowing up the mud walls, killing 15 guards and freeing around 1,200 inmates. Among the escapees were about 350 Taliban members, including commanders, would-be suicide bombers and assassins, said Ahmed Wali Karzai, the head of Kandahar’s provincial council and a brother of President Hamid Karzai.
[Another reminder of the abject failure of George Bush's 'war on terror'. Those of us who have been right from the very beginning, are vindicated more and more each day.]

That's interesting, and promising
In the latest NBC/WSJ poll, Obama leads McCain by six points (47%-41%) among registered voters. While polls can't accurately gauge an election five months out -- after all, so much can still happen -- it's worth putting Obama's lead into this perspective: Bush never trailed Kerry in the 2004 NBC/WSJ polls that measured registered voters' preference for Bush, Kerry, and Nader. And Bush's lead was never bigger than four points.

It is a well-educated state
Though Wisconsin has been close in recent presidential elections, a new University of Wisconsin poll shows the Badger State solidly in the Democratic column this time around. Sen. Barack Obama is way ahead of Sen. John McCain, 50% to 37%.

The John McCain Network
Former Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee has been hired by Fox News Channel as a political commentator, and Fox's critics are certain to raise the roof at the network's taking on another key supporter of Senator John McCain. Fox previously drew fire after hiring Karl Rove, a former senior adviser to President Bush, as a political analyst in February.

More from the 'JM' Network
As ThinkProgress has often noted, former Bush political guru Karl Rove is an informal adviser to Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) presidential campaign while simultaneously appearing as a supposedly independent political analyst on Fox News. Now, in a new article not yet posted online, National Journal’s Peter Stone reveals that Rove “talks periodically” with McCain’s chief political strategist, Charlie Black, while also speaking “fairly regularly” with other top staffers like Nicole Wallace and Steve Schmidt....

Get use to it

That damn Constitution thing!
"Sen. Obama applauds this decision and supports it," McCain said. "I argue against it and will do what I can to narrow its impact."
[For anyone with a reading comprehension level above the 6th grade it's obvious that this week's decision by the U.S. Supreme Court was a very clear interpretation of what the U.S. Constitution states. But John McCain will 'argue against it' and try to 'narrow its impact'. Did we expect any different from the warmongering moron?]

The irony of it all
VANCOUVER -- Colin Powell, the former Republican secretary of state, says he is not ruling out a vote for Barack Obama, the presumed Democratic nominee for president.
[Six years ago who would thought that if there was a Black candidate for president that was inevitable, it would be anyone other than Colin Powell? And then Dick Cheney and George Tenet sent gullible Colin to the UN, and in front of the world, with some of most egregious lies and trumped-up intelligence this nation has ever lived to regret. You should support Obama, General ... he's was dead on with Iraq and John McCain is just another one in the same mold of the men who did you in. - And oh yeah, Chuck Baldwin agreed with Obama on Iraq, too.]
