"Bush continued to criticize the Clinton administration saying it has virtually no fuel policy. He said that in dealing with the current oil problem, he first would have used his `capital' with some of the OPEC nations, such as Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, and asked them to `open the spigot.'"- (Washington Post, "Gas Prices, Surplus Fuel a Gore Proposal," June 28, 2000-source)When Bush was harping on Bill Clinton's inability to use his 'capital' with OPEC, oil was $28 a barrel. Yesterday it closed at over $127 after the Saudis told Bush where he could take that 'capital'.
We shouldn't be asking the Saudis anything. We should be telling them sons-of-bitches what's going to happen.
But instead we get George W. Bush.
Another fine example of conservative Republican leadership.
