For most of the last two decades, Supreme Court conservatives led by Justice Antonin Scalia dominated the debates during oral arguments. They greeted advocates for liberal causes with sharp and sometimes caustic questions, putting them on the defensive from the opening minute. It's encouraging to know that at least Obama has steered the Court toward getting back to the Constitution and away from the corporate fascists, but we are still one Justice short of where we need to be.
But the tenor of the debate has changed in recent months, now that President Obama's two appointees to the court, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, have joined the fray and reenergized the liberal wing.
Is it wrong to wish that one of the five corporate fascists hurries up and dies even if it's really good for the country? ...Quite contrary, I would argue.
Well, I guess they could retire, too. Or be impeached.
