That 'First Tea Party'?

"At the first of two rallies this weekend, Palin pumped up Tea Partiers, invoking the cause of the first Tea Party in 1773. - "Remember it was the Freedom Fighters and those who protested tyranny and big government. And that's what we're doing today."

Poor Caribou Barbie. Of course she's ignorant of history. When it comes to the tall tale of the 'Boston Tea Party', most Americans are ignorant. In fact, when it comes to any history, most Americans are ignorant.

Those Boston colonists were protesting tax cuts. That's right, tax cuts;
On May 10, 1773, the British parliament authorized the East India Co., which faced bankruptcy due to corruption and mismanagement, to export a half a million pounds of tea to the American colonies for the purpose of selling it without imposing upon the company the usual duties and tariffs. With these privileges, the company could undersell American merchants and monopolize the colonial tea trade.
So yeah, Ol' Sam Adams and the boys were pissed because the East India Co. got a tax break and they didn't. Tax cuts.... I guess the old tale of, 'taxation without representation' sounds more heroic.

The Teabaggers of today should have revolted back in 2001 when George W. Bush gave the top 1% a huge tax cut and the other 99% the fucking bill. Where were those assholes then?
