Sunday Scroll #89

We shoot, we SCORE!PESHAWAR, Pakistan — A British militant who was a liaison to Al Qaeda and was a main suspect in the plot to blow up trans-Atlantic airliners in 2006 was killed Saturday in a missile strike by an American aircraft in northern Pakistan, senior Pakistani and American officials said.
[I'm not sure if that guy is pissed about the missile strike or he's at the Oklahoma-Texas Tech game.]

Trickle up!
WASHINGTON – President-elect Barack Obama promoted an economic plan Saturday he said would create 2.5 million jobs by rebuilding roads and bridges and modernizing schools while developing alternative energy sources and more efficient cars.

It 'reflects' alot!
A retired Marine general and former Nato commander is emerging as a leading contender to become Barack Obama’s national security adviser, the most important foreign policy post in the White House. James Jones, a decorated Vietnam veteran and former Supreme Allied Commander in Europe, is admired by Republicans and Democrats - he is a close friend of John McCain – and would bring particular expertise on Iraq and Afghanistan, two of Mr Obama’s overseas priorities when he takes office on January 20. No final decision has been made on the post, but the serious consideration being given to General Jones reflects the President-elect’s determination to put together a bipartisan team of strong characters and former rivals.
[With Obama and Gen. Jones it's, off to Afghanistan!]

I'll take the one in the middle
Barring last minute changes, the nominee for Treasury Secretary will be NY Fed President Tim Geithner -- a career Treasury official under both Bob Rubin and Larry Summers -- who actually had worked at the Treasury in three administrations under five Secretaries -- going back to 1988.
[Couldn't decide between Rubin or Summers so take the guy who worked for both.]

Spacewalking
U.S. space shuttle Endeavour Mission Specialists Heide Piper, top, and Shane Kimbrough work outside of the International Space Station on Friday during the second of four planned spacewalks for the STS-126 mission.

Al Franken trails by 115
The weekend isn't bringing any respite in the Minnesota Senate recount. Ballots in the ultra-close race between Republican Norm Coleman and Democrat Al Franken are being counted in at least three counties today. Fifty-three counties have reported complete results to the secretary of state, meaning fewer than three dozen remain. As of Friday night, at least 60 percent of the estimated 2.9 million ballots had gotten a second look.

That's a lot of money

If you've been following the auto industry's crisis, then you've probably read or heard a lot about overpaid American autoworkers--in particular, the fact that the average hourly employee of the Big Three makes $70 per hour. That's an awful lot of money. Seventy dollars an hour in wages works out to almost $150,000 a year in gross income, if you assume a forty-hour work week. Is it any wonder the Big Three are in trouble? And with auto workers making so much, why should taxpayers--many of whom make far less--finance a plan to bail them out? Well, here's one reason: The figure is wildly misleading. [And, more here.]Eric Allie

Just as 2002, Chambliss set to steal it
As the state of Georgia prepares to conduct a runoff between incumbent Senator Saxby Chambliss and his Democratic challenger, Jim Martin, old doubts about the election in which Chambliss took the Senate seat from Max Cleland six years ago are attracting fresh notice.

Stupid is as stupid does
Can anyone remember a dumber American or more comical caricature (besides W) to come along than Sarah Palin?

Mr. Irrelevant still in denial
SACRAMENTO, Calif.- A former opponent of Barack Obama's has come back to haunt him over questions regarding Obama's citizenship. According to a press release from the American Independent Party, former presidential candidate Alan Keyes and other members of the party have filed suit in California Superior Court in Sacramento to stop the state from giving its electoral votes to President-elect Barack Obama until documentary evidence is provided to prove Obama is indeed a natural born citizen of the United States.
[Give up on the birth certificate hoax, assholes. It's been debunked long ago and it only shows how pathetically weak and whiny you've become. If you're capable, try taking your ass-whuppin' like a man.]

"Welcome Back, Clinton"

A class act

Hitler's ball
"Hitler has only got one ball, Göring has two but very small, Himmler is somewhat sim'lar, But poor old Goebbels has no balls at all. Hitler has only got one ball, The other is on the kitchen wall, His mother, the dirty b——r, Chopped it off when he was small." -- AN extraordinary account from a German army medic has finally confirmed what the world long suspected: Hitler only had one ball.

They're out there
WASHINGTON (AP) - Threats against a new president historically spike right after an election, but from Maine to Idaho law enforcement officials are seeing more against Barack Obama than ever before.

McCain wins Missouri
Fifteen days after the presidential election, John McCain was declared the unofficial winner of the state of Missouri, his 0.12% victory over Barack Obama delivering the Show Me State's 11 electoral votes to the Republican ticket. Unfortunately for the Arizona Republican, that still leaves him on the short end of a 365-173 electoral total, with Democrat Obama easily topping the 270 mark needed for victory.

What a phony asshole
For years, Bill O’Reilly has been ranting about an alleged “War on Christmas,” claiming liberals are unjustly replacing “Christmas” festivities with “Holiday” festivities. News Hounds notes that O’Reilly isn’t practicing what he preaches, as he is showing off a “holiday reading list” on his website.

The Limbaugh Award

Many years ago when this prestigious, but infamous, award for liars was first introduced, an air-headed freshman U.S. Congresswoman from Minnesota, Michele Bachmann, was its very first recipient.

Last Sunday morning on Fox News Sunday, Minnesota governor, Tim Pawlenty, was asked by Chris Wallace about the recount for the Senate race between Norm Coleman and Al Franken and if the rumor about ballots being found in someone's trunk was true and Pawlenty replied, "the ballot- in-the-trunk story has now been retracted, that it wasn't accurate."

That was a fairly big revelation from Pawlenty since he and Sean Hannity and others on Fox had lied more than once about that very same rumor since the election. I thought to myself, if that damn Hannity, or Megyn Kelly repeat that lie this week they're going to win the Limbaugh.

But, it wasn't Hannity - close enough since it happened on Hannity & Colmes - it was that crazy fucking McCarthyrite Michele Bachmann, who two days after her governor had said it wasn't true, shamelessly repeated the lie.

Congratulations and welcome back, Congress lady. You're #89.
