Nationally, the race [for Dennis Hastert's seat in Congress] also was considered by some to be a proxy fight between Republican presidential nominee John McCain, who endorsed Oberweis, and Democratic presidential front-runner Obama, who cut a TV ad for Foster -- a characterization eschewed by both national parties.
To take a long held Republican seat -- one held for 21 years by the former Speaker of the House -- with McCain endorsing the Republican and Barack Obama the winning Democrat, is hopefully a sign of what's to come this fall.
