Sunday Scroll #42

Almost got us to fight it for them
Israel: US report on Iran may spark war
Israel's public security minister warned Saturday that a U.S. intelligence report that said Iran is no longer developing nuclear arms could lead to a regional war that would threaten the Jewish state. In his remarks — Israel's harshest criticism yet of the U.S. report — Avi Dichter said the assessment also cast doubt on American intelligence in general, ...
[The goddamn Israelis are more pissed off than a nest of hornets in the middle of a pinata since we're not going to take out Iran for them. Give them a few more billion and they'll shut up]

Playing possum, for the moment
'The Sunni war against US occupation had gone surprisingly well for them since it began in 2003. It was a second war, the one against the Shia majority led by al-Qa'ida, which the Sunni were losing, with disastrous results for themselves. "The Sunni people now think they cannot fight two wars - against the occupation and the government - at the same time," a Sunni friend in Baghdad told me last week. "We must be more realistic and accept the occupation for the moment."

It's hard to make it on 30K a month
The U.S. Senate defeated a bid to limit annual payments to farmers. The proposed amendment to the federal Farm Bill would have reduced overall farm payments to $250,000 a year per married couple. The current limit is $360,000.

Jon Kyle is an asshole
The Senate moved Friday against the worsening mortgage crisis, voting to make it easier for thousands of homeowners with ballooning interest rates to refinance into federally insured loans. The legislation, approved 93-1, -- The only senator to vote against the bill was Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.

Real passionate little prick, isn't he?
Justice Department spokesman Erik Ablin said Bush has granted 142 pardons and commuted five sentences since taking office in 2001 — lagging far behind the pace set by most modern presidents. Compared to most of his immediate predecessors, Bush has granted far fewer pardons for the length of time he's been in the White House. President Clinton issued a total of 457 in eight years in office. Bush's father, George H. W. Bush, issued 77 in four years. President Reagan issued 406 in eight years, and President Carter issued 563 in four years. Since World War II, the largest number of pardons and commutations — 2,031 — came from President Truman, who served 82 days short of eight years.
[And it runs in the family]

That doesn't make sense
In head-to-head matchups -- the first to include Huckabee -- the former Arkansas governor loses to Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York by 10 percentage points (54 percent to 44 percent), to Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois by 15 points (55 percent to 40 percent) and to former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina by 25 points (60 percent to 35 percent).
[Don't those numbers seem reversed?]

I had to laugh when I read this;
'Worst Obituary Ever?'

Sha-Zaam!

Keep the change
The U.S. military paid a Florida company nearly $32 million to build barracks and offices for Iraqi army units even though nothing was ever built, Pentagon investigators reported.

The Limbaugh Award
"90 percent of the people on the Nobel Committee are into child pornography and molestation, according to the latest scientific studies"

That statement made this week's selection way too easy. And an asshole as big as Michael Savage is long overdue.

Congratulations, Psycho Pervert --- You're #42!
