Sunday Scroll #25

Jesus, kill those sons-of-bitches!
A California minister who used church stationery and an Internet radio program to endorse former Gov. Mike Huckabee for president is asking his followers to pray for the deaths of those who filed a complaint against him with the IRS.

Who's aiding the enemy?
For years, the military has been warning that soldiers' blogs could pose a security threat by leaking sensitive wartime information. But a series of online audits, conducted by the Army, suggests that official Defense Department websites post material far more potentially harmful than anything found on a individual's blog. The audits, performed by the Army Web Risk Assessment Cell between January 2006 and January 2007, found at least 1,813 violations of operational security policy on 878 official military websites. In contrast, the 10-man, Manassas, Virginia, unit discovered 28 breaches, at most, on 594 individual blogs during the same period.

Wants to be just like George
Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe “signed into law the controversial Interception of Communications Bill, which gives his government the authority to eavesdrop on phone and Internet communications and read physical mail.” In order to defend the law, which has been called “the dictator’s tool kit,” Mugabe’s spokesperson pointed to President Bush’s wiretapping program:

Two co-defendants in the Michael Vick dogfighting case pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge Friday in federal district court and agreed to "fully cooperate" with prosecutors building a case against Vick, the Atlanta Falcons quarterback.

The Limbaugh Award

This week's winner of the Limbaugh Award, the 25th award given here at 'done that' for the liar of the week, is a man who epitomizes the Republican Party, the sleazebag king himself, Tom Delay.

Last Tuesday on CNN's 'the Situation Room', Delay had the audacity to say, "[T]he president [Bush] held the line on spending and was very good at it."

Now either Tom Delay is real stupid or he's simply a liar because anyone who is paying attention knows that's bullshit.

With Bill Clinton's last budget, federal spending was $1.863 trillion and in five short years, George Bush increased spending to $2.655 trillion - a staggering 43% increase in five years!

Now, I can sort of understand how the phony-conservatives in this country may think a 43% increase in that short period of time can be considered 'holding the line'. After all, their hero, Ronnie Reagan, the man they comically up hold as their conservative idol, increased spending a whopping 69% in his eight years in office. So naturally, they're clueless when it comes to federal spending.

To give you a little perspective, and to point out who the only true fiscal conservative that this country has seen in quite some time, Bill Clinton increased federal spending only 32% in his eight years in office.

If anyone wants to challenge my numbers, go here and add them up for yourself.

The bottom line is, Tom Delay is just another lying phony-conservative, and he's the 25th winner of the prestigious, but infamous, award for liars.
