Comedian and national radio commentator Al Franken will run for the U.S. Senate in 2008, according to a source with Minnesota's Democratic congressional delegation.
Franken told a Democratic congressman days ago that he intends to run for the seat now held by Republican U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman, a high-ranking staffer of the delegation member confirmed Wednesday.
Coleman is seen as a top national target by Democrats, though his poll numbers have increased in recent months. According to SurveyUSA, Coleman's approval rating recently hit 55 percent, up from 49 percent in December.
The Coleman campaign declined Wednesday to comment on the possibility of a run against Franken.
